A PID (Parameter ID) is a specific data channel your vehicle's ECU broadcasts over the OBD2 port. Your scan tool requests PIDs and the ECU responds with live values — fuel pressure, knock counts, fuel trims, boost pressure, transmission temperature, and hundreds more depending on the platform.
Not all PIDs are available on all tools. FORScan exposes Ford-specific enhanced PIDs. HP Tuners and EFI Live expose GM-specific channels not available on generic OBD2 scanners. This library tells you which tool you need for each PID and what values to expect.
